The starting gate dropped, the cheers erupted, and another exciting Pack 3000 Pinewood Derby was underway!
The Pinewood Derby is one of Cub Scouting’s most iconic traditions. Scouts work alongside a parent or trusted adult to transform a simple block of pine into a one-of-a-kind race car. Every car tells a story—whether it’s built for speed, inspired by a favorite hobby, or painted in bright, creative colors.
Race day is about much more than crossing the finish line. It’s about creativity, teamwork, sportsmanship, and celebrating the hard work every Scout puts into their car.
More Than a Race
Leading up to race day, our Scouts learned valuable skills while designing and building their cars. Together with their families, they:
- 🚗 Designed unique Pinewood Derby cars
- 🪵 Learned basic woodworking skills
- ⚖️ Explored weight distribution and balance
- 🎨 Expressed creativity through custom paint and decorations
- 🔧 Solved problems and made improvements
- 👨👩👧👦 Created lasting memories with family members
No two cars were alike, making every race exciting and every Scout’s creation something to celebrate.

The Big Race
When race day arrived, the room filled with excitement as cars raced down the track and families cheered for every Scout.
Whether a car finished first or crossed the line a little later, every Scout experienced the thrill of competition while demonstrating good sportsmanship and encouraging fellow racers.
The loudest cheers often came not for the fastest cars—but for Scouts who celebrated each other’s successes and had fun together.
Learning Through Play
The Pinewood Derby introduces Scouts to STEM concepts in a fun and memorable way.
As they build their cars, Scouts naturally begin asking questions like:
- Why is one car faster than another?
- How does weight affect speed?
- What makes a car roll straighter?
- How can we improve our design?
Without even realizing it, they’re learning engineering, physics, problem-solving, and perseverance.
Congratulations to Every Scout!
We’re proud of every Scout who participated. Every car represented hours of planning, creativity, teamwork, and effort, and every Scout showed what it means to “Do Your Best.”
Thank you to our volunteers, race officials, and families who made another fantastic Pinewood Derby possible.
In Pack 3000, every Scout is a winner because every Scout has the courage to create, compete, and have fun together!
